My review of Wild by Cheryl Stranded:
On one r motion picture starring Reese Witherspoon. Wild is a riveting and honest memoir of Cheryl Strayed’s life after her mom dies and she got a divorce. With nothing to lose she made an impulsive decision to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from California, through Oregon, and into Washington state. Cheryl was twenty-six year old women with no experience or training, and against all odds, made it alone. She faced down hunger, thirst, boredom, wild animals, harsh weather, injury, fatigue, boredom, and loss. Yet, in the end, she came out stronger and happier than she has ever been. It was beautifully written with suspense, humor, and style. I found myself laughing out loud, picturing her in my head. I was devastated at her losses and overjoyed at her gains. I felt like I was a part of the book. It was totally addictive and it only took me two sittings to finish the book. I only put it down to sleep. The book was completely original, I’ve never read anything like it. The book was written mostly for a mature female audience. After reading it, I was left for the better. It sparked something inside of me to have an adventure. It was thought-provoking and soul-enhancing. I desperately hope that one day I too can have a journey where I can find myself. Wild is the most inspiring and thrilling book I have read in a long while, and I recommend it to anybody that is struggling in life and wants to break free.
